PROJECTS

SFR works with the community to provide refugees and asylum seekers with education and advocacy tools to improve their quality of life and increase understanding of their rights in Israel. Our work includes initiatives and partnerships that support families with language classes, educational programs, technical and human rights trainings, and cultural exchange activities.

After School Programs

SFR works with children and youth from the refugee and asylum seeker community to provide them with meaningful extracurricular activities. The weekly after school program helps to support children's development and offer parents additional time to work and pursue their own educational opportunities. Children of all ages participate in games, arts and crafts, and other activities that focus on social interactions, motor skills, and creativity. SFR provides the additional love and support to help children from the community excel in their lives.

Community Outreach

SFR's community outreach activities focus on providing access to information for the refugee and asylum seeker population, as well as building community linkages with other Israelis. SFR works with the Sudanese community and the wider refugee and asylum seeker population, as well as other organizations to host meetings and information sessions. SFR, CIMI and Physicians for Human Rights collaborate to improve access to health care through health fairs for refugee families and asylum seekers.

Previous events that SFR has hosted include a Sudanese-Israeli women's evening and dance sessions, and other cross-cultural sessions that facilitate open dialogue between Israelis and the refugee and asylum seeker community. Community bazaars help raise funds and bring together various community members around the cause.

Adult Education

Refugees and asylum seekers arrive to Israel speaking a variety of languages and possessing a range of educational levels. SFR is committed to providing quality language instruction in both Hebrew and English through its volunteer teachers, who are both Israeli and Sudanese.

Adults also benefit from courses offered in computer skills, first aid, and human rights through other organizations including Amnesty International.
